2.3 Release handle unit
 
2.3.1 Structure and parts name
 
Structure and parts name of the release handle unit are shown in Figures 2.3 (a) and (b).

When the boat is waterborne, the boat can be released by removing the safety pin and then pulling the release handle fully and quickly (off-load release). Furthermore, when the interlock cover is opened and lifted up the interlock lever, then the interlock by the hydrostatic unit is over-ridden and the boat can be released by further operation same as off-load release (on-load release). ("This operation drops the lifeboat and may cause fatal accidents ".) The operation procedure of the release handle is illustrated in Figure 2.3 (c).

When the lifeboat is launched into seawater, the hydrostatic unit pushes up the interlock lever by the pressure of seawater. According to this operation, it is not allowed to pull the release handle where the lifeboat in air, and vice versa. The schematic diagram is shown in Figure 2.4 (c).
