Activities of CARE Japan

CARE (The Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere) Japan, one of the affiliates of CARE International, was established in May 1987, and given non-profit organization status in July 1993 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ultimate objective of CARE Japan is to assist the self-help and sustainable development of people who suffer from poverty and disasters in developing countries. Currently, we are promoting comprehensive development projects in China, Thailand, and Cambodia.

Our projects

Agriculture: China

In the dry and infertile areas of China, we are implementing the "Animal Husbandry/Livestock Development Assistance Project." Our main activities include setting up of pig and sheep banks, installation of slaughterhouses and meat processing facilities, and technical training in stockbreeding.
In the areas of China where desertification is prevalent, we are supporting the initiatives of farmers in the solidification of sand dunes and the resuscitation of plant life through the Dry Land Productivity Improvement Project

Environment: Thailand

We are implementing the "Children's Environmental Education Project," in Thailand, where much of its natural resources has been lost through deforestation. The activities of the project are centered on protecting the natural environment and afforestation in the school vicinity and the neighboring communities. We are establishing "community environment centers," conducting training programs and workshop camps, publishing and distributing pamphlets on the theme of environmental protection.

Education: Cambodia and China

Many families in Cambodia are too poor to send their children to school. Particularly for girls, repeating grades or quitting school altogether, is all too common. Through the "Girls Education Assistance Project-Somaki Komar, "we support teachers, parents and villagers in creating an environment so children are able to access education by improving school facilities and introducing scholarships.
In the "Rainbow Project," elementary and middle school students in Japan and Cambodia learn about each other's country and cultures through international exchange activities. The exchange of children's artwork, as well as the donation of stationeries and art supplies, along with various workshops serve to facilitate an understanding that goes beyond national borders and encourage international cooperation.
Additionally, in the project titled "Literacy and Technical Training for Farm Community Women," implemented in China, we provide reading, writing, and arithmetic education for illiterate women, as well as stockbreeding training.
