Conversation Practice Childhood Diseases
Mrs. Tanaka, Ken, Doctor Bravo.

Mrs. Tanaka - How is Ken?

Doctor - He is in the best of health. It is time, though, for a few immunizations this time, so that we can keep him on schedule.

Mrs. Tanaka - Immunizations?

Doctor - Yes, shots which are administered to children to prevent childhood diseases such as measles or mumps, and potentially devastating ones like rubella, hepatitis, or polio.

Mrs. Tanaka - I see. Are they safe?

Doctor - Vaccines are quite safe, and any serious reactions that may occur are extremely rare. The protection provided against illness far outweighs the risks associated with vaccines.

Mrs. Tanaka - Are there any side effects to these vaccines

Doctor - Yes. Slight fever, rash, or tenderness at the site of injection may occur. Side effects vary with the vaccines administered. Diarrhea after the polio ingestion occasionally occurs. But, slight discomfort is normal and should not cause you any alarm.

Mrs. Tanaka - I see.

Doctor - Most vaccines are completed at the age of two, and its important to keep on schedule to prevent your child from both being infected with childhood diseases or infecting other children.

Mrs. Tanaka - Yes, I have a vaccination record here. When should we come back?

Doctor - We can do them today and then fill the record out after giving Ken the shots.
