3. Participation and liaisons
.1 P-member bodies (15): China, Denmark, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Korea (KATS), Romania, Russian Federation, Sweden, Ukraine, United Kingdom, USA (Secretariat)
.2 O-member bodies (17): Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cuba, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Greece, Korea (CSK), Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey
.3 Liaisons: ISO/TC 21, TC 94, TC 188, IACS, IMO (DE, FP), ISO/TC 92/SC 1 (pending),
.4 Changes since last ISO/TC 8 plenary: In accordance with TC 8 resolution 204 (Dominica 2001-10-23/24), and in view of the lack of response from Korea (CSK) to ISO/CS letter of 2002-04-09 concerning CSK's failure to participate in the Sub-committee's work, CSK has been downgraded from P- to O-membership. However, by ISO/CS email of 16 November 2001, we were informed that Korea (KATS) has been added as a new P-member. By ISO/CS letter of 2002-02-28, we were informed that Mexico has discontinued its membership in the Sub-committee as an O-member.
At its meeting in Tokyo 2002-04-18/19, the Sub-committee approved the establishment of new liaisons with ISO/TC 92/SC 1 (Fire initiation and growth), with Mr. Bjorn Sundstrom proposed as the liaison officer from the TC 92 side and the TC 8/SC 1 Secretary Mr. Kurt Heinz proposed as the liaison officer from the TC 8 side; and with ISO/TC 145/SC 2 (Safety identification, signs, shapes, symbols, and colours), with Mr. John Creak proposed as the liaison officer from the TC 145 side, and Mr. Giovanni Delise proposed as the liaison officer from the TC 8 side. Approval of both proposed liaisons was noted as being conditional upon confirmation by TC 8.
4. Constitution
.1 Working groups:
.1 WG 1 Lifesaving appliances and arrangements (Convener: Mr. Jens Peter Bie (DS))
.2 WG 2 Pilot and embarkation ladders (discontinued; consolidated with WG 1)
.3 WG 3 Fire protection (Convener: Mr. Claudio Abbate (UNI))
.2 Changes since last ISO/TC 8 plenary: None. Our SC chairman, Mr. Abbate, continues for the time being to act as WG 3 convener as well, a situation which has to date presented no significant conflicts with our method of work.
5. Programme of work
.1 Published standards (15) (including published standards in revision):
.1 ISO 799:1986, Shipbuilding -- Pilot ladders [01.01R] (IMO-link-NR 43); in revision, sub-stage 40.99. Editing and graphics preparation continue preparatory to submission to ISO/CS for registration and ballot as FDAM.
.2 ISO 5488:1979, Shipbuilding -- Accommodation ladders [01.02R] (IMO-link-NR 43). At its meeting in Tokyo 2002-04-18/19, the Sub-committee agreed to circulate a Committee Draft of the consolidation of this standard and ISO 7061 Shipbuilding - Aluminium shore gangways for seagoing vessels. Circulation tends editing to incorporate the decisions taken at the Tokyo meeting.
.3 ISO 5489:1986, Shipbuilding -- Embarkation ladders [01.03R] (IMO-link-NR 43); in revision, sub-stage 20.99. Final editing underway preparatory to submission to ISO/CS for registration and ballot as CD. In view of close relationship of this standard to ISO 799, the two are being prepared concurrently.
.4 ISO/TR 6065:1991, Shipbuilding and marine structures -- Inflatable liferafts -- Materials [01.04] (IMO-link-NR 9).
.5 ISO 6067:1985, Shipbuilding and marine structures -- Winches for lifeboats [01.05] (IMO-link-NR 18); periodical review 1996, currently in revision. The planned revision of this standard has been discontinued in favor of development of ISO/CD 15516, Ships and marine technology -- Launching appliances for davit-launched lifeboats, which is on the work programme of SC 4 and would eventually replace ISO 6067.
.6 ISO 7061:1993, Shipbuilding -- Aluminium shore gangways for seagoing vessels [01.06], periodical review 1998. The standard was confirmed. However, see item .2 above concerning consolidation of this standard with ISO 5488.
.7 ISO 7364:1983, Shipbuilding and marine structures -- Deck machinery -- Accommodation ladder winches [01.07] (IMO-link-NR 43).
.8 ISO/TR 14564:1995, Shipbuilding and marine structures -- Marking of escape routes [01.08] (IMO-link-NR 14).
.9 ISO 15370:2001, Ships and marine technology -- Low-location lighting on passenger ships - Arrangement [01.11] (IMO-link-NR 17).
.10 ISO 15371:2000, Ships and marine technology -- Fire extinguishing systems for protection of galley deep-frying equipment -- Fire tests [01.12] (IMO-link-NR 46).
.11 ISO 15372:2000, Ships and marine technology -- Inflatable rescue boats -- Coated fabrics for inflatable chambers [01.13] (IMO-link-NR 53).
.12 ISO 15734:2001, Ships and marine technology -- Hydrostatic release units [01.16] (IMO-link-NR 57).
.13 ISO 15738:2002, Ships and marine technology -- Gas inflation systems for inflatable survival craft and marine evacuation systems [01.17] (IMO-link-NR 59).
.14 ISO 17339:2002, Ships and marine technology - Sea anchors for survival craft and rescue boats [01.41] (IMO-link-NR 65).
.15 ISO 17631:2002 (including technical corrigendum 1), Ships and marine technology - Safety plans for fire protection, life saving appliances and means of escape [01.22] (IMO-link-NR 17). At IMO/FP 46, the IMO/FP Sub-Committee adopted the standard as an acceptable alternative to Res. A.654(16), pending appropriate amendment of the resolution at FP 47.
