The history of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd., and that of heavy industry in Japan, began with shipbuilding. Today, MHI's Shipbuilding & Ocean Development Headquarters continues a renowned tradition spanning more than a century developing and manufacturing vessels and marine structures that meet a diverse range of modern needs.
Using technologies it has refined over many years, MHI supplies the world with container ships that support global logistics and LNG carriers that support the transportation of energy resources. MHI also constructs luxurious cruise ships and high-speed ferries. Employing the very latest technologies, we develop the hull forms that offer high performance and low energy consumption, as well as highly reliable structures. We continually aim to enhance economy, reliable, and safety through such developments as contra-rotating propellers and maritime safety support systems.
We are also positively engaged in developments with a view to the future, such as transportation of new energy resources that reduce environmental concerns, as well as high-speed distribution systems.
MHI's activities at sea encompass the globe and involve an extensive range of fields. Our initiative include The Deep-sea Scientific Riser Drilling Vessel and various products for oceanic civil engineering such as offshore oil production systems, large oil storage barges, oceanographic research vessels, and single point mooring buoys.
