The Sasakawa Graduate Studies Program
 
SYLFF Program:
The objective of the program is to support the education of graduate students at the university who show potential for future leadership in international affairs. Students enrolled in the following are eligible to apply: education, economics and public management disciplines, environmental studies, and labor relations.
 
Selection Process:
SYLFF fellowships are announced in the campus media, and announcements are sent to deans of the relevant faculties. Applicants for fellowships are expected to demonstrate evidence of academic ability, research focus, and leadership. All short-listed candidates are interviewed. Fellowships for master's degree candidates are for one year; for doctoral candidates for one year renewable for a second year. There are two types of fellowships: full and partial. Full fellowships are for US$3,300-4,450, and partial fellowships for US$1,100-2,200. Additional grants are available for research expenses (up to US$670) and national conference attendance (up to US$450). To date thirteen (13) fellowships have been awarded.

The Charles University Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Program
 
SYLFF Program:
The program supports graduate students at the university who demonstrate a high potential for leadership in international affairs. Fellowships are awarded to students enrolled in: law and international relations, economics and economics policy-making, and ethnic and socio-cultural studies.
 
Selection Process:
SYLFF fellowships are announced through the university newsletter and university computer network. Applications must be submitted in English. Two types of fellowships are available: study abroad fellowships, and fellowships for domestic projects. Travel grants are also available for the purpose of attending international conferences. Full fellowships are usually for US$1,500-4,000, and travel grants for US$500-900. Twenty (20) fellowships have been awarded to date.
