Graduate Fellowships for Academic Distinction Program
 
SYLFF Program:
The program supports the education of graduate students with high potential for future leadership, and grants fellowships in three theme areas: environmental protection, Canada as a Pacific nation, and political economy.
 
Selection Process:
SYLFF fellowships are announced in all graduate admissions materials. Outstanding applicants in the theme areas are invited to apply for the fellowships; each graduate program may recommend up to three of its best applicants. Selection criteria include: academic excellence, leadership potential, and contribution to theme area. Fellowships are usually for US$5,000 for master's degree students, and US$7,000 for PhD candidates. In addition, the university waives fees and provides assistantships for fellowship recipients. Fellowships are for one year for master's degree students and renewable for a second year, and 3 years for PhD candidates.
