Social Science Program for Increased International Understanding
SYLFF Program:
This program supports graduate students, preferably at the doctoral level, in the Faculty of Social Sciences who are enrolled in interdisciplinary courses in economics, political science, and education. Students engage in research concerning important national or international societal problems.
Selection Process:
SYLFF fellowships are announced in the local press and in the Faculty's information sheet. Information is also sent to the departments within the Faculty. Selection is based on proven scientific ability and the proposed plan which includes a research plan, a schedule of planned activities such as participation in conferences and visits to other universities, and the financial plan. Priority is given to applicants who wish to conduct full-time research. No interviews are conducted. Fellowships are granted annually, for a maximum period of 3 years. Full fellowships are usually for up to US$27,000. Fellowship recipients are required to submit a final report in English. Fifteen (15) full fellowships, sixteen (16) partial fellowships, and twenty (20) travel grants have been awarded to date.

SYLFF Program:
The program grants fellowships to students majoring in international relations, politics, international business administration, and international economics. Fellowships are also awarded to students conducting research work abroad.
Selection Process:
SYLFF fellowships are announced by posted and formal written notices. Selection is based on the evaluation of applicants' academic grades, proposed plan of study, and references. Fellowships are for up to three years, depending on the progress of academic work of the recipient. Fellowships are usually for US$1,200 for students studying in the country, and US$2,000 for students conducting research abroad. One hundred twenty-eight (128) students have been awarded SYLFF fellowships to date.
