武満徹さんは、非常に寛大で思いやりのある仲間でした。その幅広い芸術上のヴィジョンは、音楽の世界のなかに協調をもたらすという特別な効果をもっていました。ですから、彼が、この最も敬意をはらうべき建設的な作曲コンクールの実現を考えついたことは驚くにあたりません。若い作曲家と聴衆の双方にとって、本選に残ったファイナリストたちの作品をじっさいに生できくという体験そのものに、最大の芸術的価値があると思います。私自身も、ここに選ばれた作品をきくことをたいへん楽しみにしています。そして、このようなかたちで、惜しまれて亡くなった友人にしてかつ音楽上の師であった人の思い出を称えることができてたいへん幸せです。

　

Toru Takemitsu was an exceptionally generous colleague, and his broad artistic vision had a remarkably conciliatory effect within the musical world. Therefore it should not be a surprise that he devised the most honourable and constructive composers' competition in existence. The experience for young composers and audience of listening to all finalists' work in performance is in itself of the utmost artistic value. I personally look forward to hearing the selected music very much, and am happy to be able in this way to honour the memory of a much-missed friend and musical mentor.
