Biological Characteristics of SPFs
1. High mobility:
Large distribution and migration rage
2. Short and plankton-based food chain:
Physical forcing→Phytoplankton→Zooplankton→SPFs
Relatively lower trophic popsitons in ecosystems
3. Short life span:
2-7 years = Large portion of recruitment in total biomass
4. Early sexually maturation:
Grow fast in the early life stages = Mature in first or second year of the life
5. High fecundity:
Spawn year-round if conditions are suitable
These biological characteristics make SPFs highly sensitive to environmental forcing and extremely variable in their abundance.
