第2は、会員のコンサルタントとの協力によりセミナーの開催、調査、研究を行うことです。設立以来、JTCAはこのような活動を通じて開発途上国の経済発展を目的とした国際協力の推進に貢献してきました。
今回のセミナーは2000年度におけるJTCAの活動の中でも最も重要なものです。そして、このセミナーの開催費用が主に日本財団の補助金によるものだということを皆様にお伝えしておきたいと思います。それではこれから今回のセミナーに関する話に移りたいと思います。
多くの首都や主要都市においては、急速な経済成長に伴い、都市化が進展し交通混雑と環境問題の悪化が進んでいます。これらを解決するために公共交通機関の整備が急務となっています。しかしながら必要な資金や技術が十分でなく、整備に着手できないでいます。今後さらに進むと、東南アジアの大都市で見られるような深刻な都市環境の悪化や都市交通の麻痩が多発し、都市活動や経済へ悪影響を招くことになります。ヤンゴン市におきましても、同様な問題を生じさせないためにも、皆さんと共にこの機会に勉強したいと思います。
このセミナーの開催につきましては、今年の6月に日本から調査団を派遣し、YCDC、鉄道運輸省、バス管理委員会や多くの皆様のご協力を得て、ヤンゴン市の都市開発や都市交通問題等の現地調査を実施いたしました。その結果を踏まえ、今回のセミナーを開催することになりました。ミャンマーの皆さんが将来の都市ビジョンの認識をより深め、より快適なヤンゴンの都市公共交通整備を進める上で、このセミナが何らかのお役に立つことを期待するものでございます。主催者を代表いたしまして、今回のセミナー参加者の皆様に心よりの敬意を表したいと思います。
最後にYCDC、鉄道運輸省、バス管理委員会関係者、また、今回のセミナー開催に多大の協力をしてくださった日本大使館、日本運輸省、並びに資金面で支援して下さった目本財団の関係者皆様に心より感謝の意を表したいと思います。このセミナーが有意義なものになることを順いつつ、私からの挨拶を終わらせていただきたいと思います。ご静聴いただき誠にありがとうございました。

発表テーマ History of Urban Transportation in Yangon City
Good morning ladies and gentlemen, as a first presentation I'm going to present the History of Urban Transportation Development in Yangon City. Actually it is the not only a history but also I'll discuss about the yesterday experience concerning with the traffic urban transportation. My people are presenting what kind of transportation we have in older days and what is the situation of the commuters and base upon yesterday experience what kind of line we should work in concerning with urban transportation. So, first I'll discuss about how Yangon City Development from the colonial time up to present and second I'll discuss about the transportation development before 1948 and 1948 to 1962, Formation of Yangon Division Bus Control Committee (YDBCC), Urban Transportation in (1982), Public Transportation Situation in 1993-94, The Present Situation of Public Transportation in Yangon and what is the roles of Yangon City Development Committee in Urban Transportation and Traffic Control and then I'll discuss about the Traffic Growth and Volume which will fallow Traffic Congesting and Parking and then I'll discuss about the Development of Public Transport and City Planning and last is the Conclusion and Recommendation.
Concerning with the Urban Development, Yangon is a pleasant lay out and lows to medium Density City with a considerable character and charm. It is located between the confluence of the two rivers Hlaing River and the Pazudaung Creek, is also called the Namoeyeik River.
