Fabulous mrals result in satisfied but also food waste. Shipboard waste management systems provide for the effective treatment and disposal of excess food waste. This waste management system starts before ship boarding by carefully managing provisions brought on board to minimize waste produced. We gear all provisions to the confirmed guest list and itinearary. Food wastes are separated in the dining room by your wait staff and assistants and in the galleys by crew members. All wet food waste is processed through giant grinders called pulpers that reduce the size of the food particles which allows for more efficient removal of waste by the extractors. By removing excess water the food waste is more easily burned and managed. The wate removed in the process is recycled in the food slurry line before being treated and ultimately discharged as gray water.

Cans and glass are used in abundance on the ships: aluminium cans from soft drinks, tins cans from the galley, and bottles from beer, wine and liquors.Fortunately, both glass and cans are easily recyclable, almost everywhere in the world. Glass is crushed on board, held in cold rooms and landed regularly for recycling. Cans are sorted to separate the aluminum cans, which have a high value in the recycling market, crushed and also stored in the cold room.
