・Prepare a marine-briefing for Austrade overseas offices to inform them about the Western Australian industry, to identify the most fruitful areas for follow-up, and market intelligence gathering; and deliver this package at least once per year, regularly updated from feedback from stakeholders.
・Assist the Boating Industry Association (WA), (BIA) to prepare a business strategy, including defining size and scope of business groupings within the industry.
・Work with BIA in developing an export capability register for the BIA members (similar to the New Zealand export capability register), to include those organisations actually exporting or capable of exporting; and develop a schedule for trade shows, local, national and international. Provide supporting materials and training and assistance at national and international boat shows.
・Foster the working relationships with the BIA (WA), BIAA, DIST and Austrade, as part of an assistance package supporting the BIA national executive.
OBJECTIVE 5: Review the potential and current level of activity of the local marine biotechnology industry
The marine biotechnology industry needs to be encouraged and nurtured to exploit the known and probable biological resources of Western Australia.
ACTION
・Review the potential and scope of the bio-pharmaceuticals and bio-technology sector in relation to the naturally occurring marine assets in Western Australia.
・Undertake a study of the marine bio-technology and chemicals industry in Australia and globally to determine the potential as a key industry, including investment attractions for organisations, private and public.
・Evolve a strategy for developing this industry in Western Australia and its interface with related marine industry areas in the State.
OBJECTIVE 6: Review the potential and current level of activity of the local underwater technologies industry
The underwater technologies industry is primarily driven by defence and oil and gas exploration requirements. It should be encouraged to develop new markets for the skills which have been acquired in servicing these two markets.
ACTION
・Assess opportunities in the national and regional market in underwater marine technologies for Western Australian manufacturing and marketing programs.
・Identify opportunities for ROV part manufacture and training in Western Australia.
