ALSTOM POWER

 

1. OUTLINE OF COMPANY

 

1.1 Organisation of the Company

Until recently Alstom Power was named ABB Alstom Power and was part of the ABB Group. Alstom was previously in the joint ownership of Alcatel, a French electrical engineering group, and GEC (UK) but on the 22nd of June 1998 it became a public limited company. Alacatel and GEC each hold 24 per cent of the company's shares and its employees hold 1 per cent of the shares. Of the remaining shares, it is estimated that financial institutions (banks, insurance companies etc.) hold around 36 per cent and private individuals around 15 per cent.

 

Alstom Group is organised into six business sectors, and Alstom Power into seven business segments as shown in the diagram below.

1.2 Company Performance

In the 1999/2000 financial year, Alstom Group had total sales in excess of EUR16 billion (more than Yen1,500 billion), and employed around 140,000 people.
