Correspondence Groups
Other ISMA activities are handled by correspondence groups, called upon as necessary. Manpower supply and training is entrusted to a group which monitors developments in the field of recruitment and crew training.
Information regarding training facilities world-wide is shared amongst the members. The group also organises training seminars in various crewing centres for both sea and shore staff.
From the outset, the ISMA Executive Committee recognised the need to forge close links with the insurance industry, and a second group handles marine insurance. The two basic aims of the group are to explore and develop initiatives in the insurance field which will benefit the ISMA membership, and to inform hull underwriters, P&I club and other insurance interests about ISMA activities and the benefits of code accreditation.
An important aspect of ISMA's work is its consultative Status with IMO and a third correspondence group is responsible for overseeing its input on IMO matters. The group ensures that ISMA representatives attend IMO meetings where their specialist knowledge will enable a useful contribution to be made.
