13. The appearance of the lesion on the back of the upper arm is highly suggestive of leprosy. This was her only lesion and it showed definite loss of sensation to cotton wool and pinprick. The ulnar nerve on the affected side was normal. Paucibacillary (PB) leprosy.
Her smile suggests that she is not badly upset by the diagnosis of leprosy. Perhaps the health worker has explained that she will be cured by taking 6 months' multidrug therapy (MDT:-see MDT (PB)-Adult doses & MDT (PB)-SHILD doses (age 10-14 years)). Good communication between health worker and the patient is essential in the management of this disease.
