私が初めて日本での演奏を行ってからすでに40年という年月が経とうとしています。日本の皆さまの前で百回以上の演奏を行ってきたことは、私の音楽家人生の中で非常に重要な部分を占めていることをこのたび改めて認識いたしました。非常に高い音楽的知識と教養を持っておられる日本の皆様との交流があったからこそ、今日の私の音楽家としての生活が充実していると言えるでしょう。今年もまた、特に私の70歳の誕生記念公演として日本で演奏できることを非常に光栄に存じます。この場をお借りして、日本の皆さまの熱意、ご支援に対し心より御礼申し上げます。そのご期待に応えられる様これからも全力を尽す所存です。
As I reflect upon the almost 40 years during which I have appeared as performer in Japan, I have come to realize that the hundred of concerts given before Japanese audiences have become an integral part of my artistic life. How much poorer my life in music would have been had I not had the artistic satisfaction of integrating with one of the most knowledgeable of audiences in today's musical scene, the Japanese music public. I am privileged to appear in Japan again, this time celebrating my seventieth birthday year. I thank the Japanese music lovers for their loyalty, enthusiasm and devoted support. May I always prove worthy of their trust!
