Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. has developed a training simulator for LNG carriers, the first set of which was delivered to Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha.
The simulator has the same cargo control console and boiler control console as the actual ship, and is able to simulate a wide range of cargo handling and boiler operations based on the elaborate computer models of the latest LNG carriers.
The integrated monitoring system (IMS) that allows operations such as unloading and loading in the automated mode is also provided for training of cargo handling. Operations in manual mode is also possible, considering crew training on conventional LNG carriers.
The cargo control and boiler control consoles can provide a large extent of trainings including boiler combustion in various modes such as gas burning, oil burning and dual-duel burning in combination with all sorts of cargo handling operations.
The instructor station of the simulator can select various training modes. Setting of various trouble conditions are also possible, which enables trainees to control emergency situations not normally encountered in actual service. This can be carried out by selection of standard trouble menus prepared by KHI and completed in cooperation with the customer.
