Radar ARPA Simulator with Visual Display System (MSHS-RV372)

Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES) delivered a radar ARPA simulator with visual display system, to Kagoshima Fishery High School in mid-December 1999.This simulator is a radar ARPA simulator capable of simulating two vessels' operations to meet one of the requirements of the 1995 STCW Convention.

To make the simulator even more effective, it is additionally equipped on its Vessel I Section with a visual display system, which is this simulator's most significant feature and has two advantages. First, during radar observation training and radar ARPA simulation training, mutual interference can be checked from a simulated image on the visual display system. Second, the combination of the visual display system and the maneuvering console enables the system to serve as a ship handling simulator as well, so that trainee can empirically learn kinetic performance features of various types of ships among other things.

The student carries out simulated maneuvering while watching the screen of the ARPA radar display and the screen of the visual display system. Other ships' behaviors are set from the Teacher's Section in advance, and the student has to plan his maneuvering to avoid collision with them. What is more characteristic than anything else is that the student can experience practical and true-to-life simulated maneuvering while checking the image of Vessel II, which is be-having according to its own will and shown on the screen.
