UMITAKA MARU Training Ship
UMITAKA MARU was delivered at the Tokyo Port in June 2000 to the Tokyo University of Fisheries by Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.(MES)
The new UMITAKA MARU is the replacement for the third UMITAKA MARU that was built at the MES Fujinagata Shipyard in 1973.
She is provided with advanced educational equipment including survey and research facilities.
And she has already entered into service to train students who will become marine experts and engineers.
Design Features
1. The ship has a twin decker with forecastle to provide sufficient seaworthiness in rough conditions. And she can also meet requirements for fishing practice, survey and observation for a long training period.
2. The navigational ship speed is changeable in a wide range. For example, dead slow navigation and low noise operation by electric motor propulsion are possible. Course and speed keeping capabilities are also provided.
3. The bow thruster, flap rudder, and CPP are easily operated by the Joystick control system to ensure various ship operation modes.
4. All functions for ship operation, engine control system, survey & observation system, charts, and radio station are concentrated in the bridge house. The ship can be totally controlled from the bridge.
