WAN HAI Series of 1,660-TEU Container Ships
Naikai Zosen Corporation built four 1,660-TEU container ships to the order of Wan Hai Lines Ltd., of which WAN HAI 231 was delivered in February 2000, WAN HAI 232 in April 2000, WAN HAI 233 in June 2000, and WAN HAI 235 in August 2000.
Features
1. Each vessel is dedicated container carrier with capacity of 1,660 TEUs (of which 150 are refrigerated containers), mainly intended to serve the Japan-Australia shuttle / Southeast Asia route.
2. The cargo space is divided into Nos.1 through 5 holds with altogether nine hatches. In each hold, containers are stacked up to five tiers, and on hatch covers, up to six tiers.
3. The engine department is equipped for unmanned operation to facilitate labor saving, and a Hitachi Zosen B&W 7S60MC-C ultra-long stroke diesel engine is used as the main engine for greater fuel economy and higher propulsion efficiency.
4. Each vessel is provided with bow thruster for easier berthing and unberthing, an auto-heeling device for safer cargo handling, collision prevention support system for safer navigation, and an elevator (accommodating up to four persons) for more convenient crew traffic on board.
5. All the four container ships are equipped for the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS).
