Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES) delivered the 34,939-dwt bulk carrier ISA, at Chiba Works in April 1999.

The ISA was designed suitable for the U.S.Great Lakes trade and has a sharp and slender shape compared to ordinary bulk carriers. Its six cargo holds with six hatches provide 45,632 m3 of cargo capacity by optimization of hull form and cargo hold arrangement. Three sets of deck crane with hoisting capacity of 30 t each are mounted for cargo handling.

In order to ensure safety against flooding accidents, water tank bulkheads, double bottom construction and reinforced longitudinal are provided in conformity with the requirements of IACS UR Bulk Carrier Safety.

A controllable pitch propeller (CPP) and bow thruster ensure safety and good maneuverability of the ship in canals, and the use of the Mitsui Integrated Propeller Boss (MIPB) suppresses energy consumption.

The main engine is Mitsui-MAN B&W 5S50MCC diesel with low fuel consumption. The engine cooling system is fully centralized using fresh water to decrease maintenance work.

Advanced monitoring and control systems for the deck part and engine part operated through a keyboard and monitor display achieve manpower saving. Moreover, a new and high-grade coating system is applied to the outer shells of the ship to reduce maintenance cost.
