CAPE LOTUS 170,780-dwt Ore / Coal Carrier
Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. has completed 12 vessels of 170,000-dwt Dunkirk max ore / coal carriers since 1996. CAPE LOTUS is the tenth vessel of the series, and was delivered to H Corporation S.A. on January 12, 2000 at Kure Shipyard.
The vessel has 9 holds each with side-rolling type hatch cover. Its design was renovated to achieve good performance and for simplicity and easiness from the operational point of view. To ensure safe operation of the vessel, the hull structure was carefully examined by using the FEA (Finite Element Analysis). Also the performance of hull form and propeller was investigated thoroughly using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) with inter-action of many tank test data of this type of vessel.
