4. International Hi-level Consultation With Relevant Organizations

The commandant-level talks between JCG and the Korea National Maritime Policy Agency were held for the first time in April 1999 in Inchon, Korea. The second round was held in October 1999 taking advantage of the opportunity provided by the Japan-ROK Joint Rescue and Disaster Prevention Exercise held in Pusan.

The Commandant of JCG participated in the Fourth Session of the Asia-Pacific Maritime Safety Agencies Forum in Singapore, and had an active exchange of views with the heads of maritime safety organizations in the Asia Pacific region, which contributed to strengthening ties among them. During the trip, he also made a visit to Vietnam, where his predecessors had never visited, and met the Chairman of the Vietnam National Maritime Bureau in Hanoi.

In addition, the Commandant traveled to China for the first time in April 2000, and held meetings with Chinese officials, including Minister of Public Security and Vice Minister of Transport in Beijing.
