The vessels carry out scuba activities, such as under water searches for missing persons or surveillance of capsized ships, each with a team of four scuba divers. In 1999, these vessels were dispatched to 321 maritime rescue missions and other activities.

(1) Verification of Occurrences of Marine Pollution
In 1999, JCG verified the occurrence of 589 cases of marine pollution by oil, waste, factory discharge, and other substances, in Japan's surrounding waters. This is a record low of cases since it started taking statistics in 1973 (refer to Diagram 7).
