2. Present State of Policing of Foreign Marine Scientific Research Vessels
JCG conducts stringent pursuit and surveillance of foreign marine scientific research vessels, and other boats, operating in continental shelf and other waters over which Japan possesses the sovereign and jurisdiction rights, with patrol vessels, craft and aircraft. Further, with respect to vessels operating without Japanese consent, JCG counters by such means as issuing on-site demands in the waters to cease operations and reporting promptly to the relevant organizations such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (refer to Diagram 4).
