3. Presentations and Papers
Papers can be divided into following four groups.
Group 1: Special Lecture
One special lecture was presented by Prof. A. P. Roskilly (Refer to Photo 2) as the representative of The Institute of Marine Engineers (IMarE) on the title of "Marine Engineering :Design and Operation for Environmental Sustainability".
Group 2: Keynote Lectures
Three keynote lectures were presented before technical sessions.
I) By Prof. M. Hirata on the title of "Marine Air Pollution and Global Climate Change"
II) By Mr. S. G. Dexter on the title of "Heavy Fuel Engines Maintain Their Lead by Continued Development"
III) By Mr. M. J. Cannon on the title of "Marine Lubricating Oils and Advancement in Tribology"
Group 3: Panel Discussions
Four panel discussions were run under the following titles.
I) "Let's think about marine fuel qualities as they are and will be-CIMAC Fuel Recommendations and ISO 8217" co-chaired by Mr. A. Aabo and Mr. K. Shiode.
II) "Exhaust gas emission from ships-How marine engines can be environmentally friendly and efficient" co-chaired by Mr. K. Wilson and Mr. K. Tayama.
III) "Marine Gas Turbines in the 21 st century" co-chaired by Prof. S. Hayama and Mr. T. Iwamoto.
IV) "Technology in Ocean Utility" co-chaired by Prof. K. Ishida and Mr. I. Aya.
Group 4: Technical Sessions
Total 24 sessions were held during two days in parallel.
Each session had three or four papers, resulting total 153 papers were presented.
As the result, total technical papers presented were 175 including 18 papers at panel discussions.
4. Banquet
The banquet was held in the middle day evening at other hotel, Akasaka Prince Hotel. Very many guests, who were over our estimation, attended the smorgasbord style party.
Between some ceremonies, two shows were presented.
One of them was Japanese drums played by an armature group, which consists of one man and five girls (Refer to Photo 3).
The other one was a practice by participants to fly Taketonbo (direct translation is bamboo dragonfly, just like a bamboo helicopter).
Both were quit the traditional cultures, therefore the guests from overseas seemed to be very satisfied.
