Fig. 5.3 shows the number of production and orders received of main and auxiliary boilers by 8 boiler manufacturers in 1999 with reference to the boiler capacity.
About 218 boilers for VLCCs judged from the capacity of boilers, were manufactured, and this number is almost same as 224 in 1998 and 259 in 1997, and the VLCCs built in 1970s have been actively replaced.
Fig. 5.4 shows the summary of the number of production and orders received of the composite boilers, and the size of the boilers has been increased compared with that in 1998.
From these findings, it seems that the number of large Post-PANAMAX container carriers over 5,500 TEU will be increased in 2000s.
The Sub-Committee on Boiler Research of the Energy System Research Committee focuses on the auxiliary boilers, and is summarizing the trouble-shooting for the failure of ignition at burners by the boiler so as to be useful in suppressing accidents such as back-fire and other troubles.
5.3.3 Exhaust Gas Economizer
One hundred and three exhaust gas economizers were manufactured in 1999, which is increased by about 10% compared with those in 1998.
Fig. 5.5 shows the summary of the number of production and the orders received of the exhaust gas economizers.
The size of large exhaust gas economizers for T/G is decreased due to the maintenance cost and the initial manufacturing cost in recent years, and the exhaust gas economizers are in the trend of miniaturization.
