5. Conclusion

 

The Mitsubishi MET-SE II MET90SE turbocharger uses turbine blades having a proven performance record, features an optimized blade thickness distribution for the high capacity compressor impeller wheel, and limits vibratory stress through the adoption of a new type tachometer and a new axial flow type silencer, thereby achieving high reliability. In addition, efforts have been made to increase rotor strength in conjunction with expanded capacity.

Accordingly, the MET-SE II MET90SE turbocharger allows higher capacity for the same size, without sacrificing reliability or performance, and can also be applied for higher output engines. Shipments of the initial MET90SE turbocharger models are planned to commence in June 2000. Further turbocharger development work is also envisioned, corresponding to future trends in engine and ship requirements.
