The lean-burn engine with computerized port admission and prechamber according to Figure 5 is promoted for marine applications by the author's company only under certain conditions:

・The engine must be equipped with active misfiring detection.

・Special long lifetime spark plugs must be used.

・Special attention shall be paid to the engine compartment; preferably the engines should be deck-mounted.

 

Diesel-electric propulsion of comparatively small vessels could be a likely application of lean-burn gas engines.
