5. Concluding Remarks

 

Wind tunnel tests using small-scale intake duct models were conducted to investigate the flow interaction effect between two water-jet intake ducts. Also, the predictions by the three-dimensional viscous CFD code were performed. Measured and predicted results showed reasonable agreement and the following conclusions were derived through the present studies:

・The pressure loss coefficient can be well predicted around the design point and the error becomes larger in higher inlet velocity ratio.

・The existence of grid at intake duct inlet leads to over-estimation of the pressure loss and the degree of over-estimation depends on the intake duct operation and the duct shape.

・The flow interaction effect between the neighboring intake ducts exerts an influence on the flow pattern along the ship bottom and the wall static pressure especially around and just downstream the duct lip.
