Title: Exception Report of ISO/TC8/SC6

The progress of the activities of SC6 is favourable. The following is a report on SC 6's main activities made after the ISO/TC8/SC6 Tokyo meeting which was held on 18 October 1999.

1. ECS Database

It was approved by ISO/TC8/SC6 Resolution 4 that ECS Database should be re-proposed as an NWIP. It was formally accepted, through the SC6 P-members' re-voting, with support by Germany, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Norway, the Russian Federation, Sweden and the USA that the item should be made into SC6's work item. Although the UK voted against it, the UK expressed its participation in the discussion of the draft of ISO standard for ECS Database.

At present Mr. Rogoff, the convener of this item, has been arranging the preparation work for the draft consideration. The first meeting was held in Hamburg from 27 to 29 March 2000.

2. Marine Transmitting Heading Devices (THD)

At the SC 6 Tokyo meeting, Japan proposed THD preparatorily. Japanese proposal of THD was sent, under the date of 2000-03-30, to SC 6 members, to take a vote on THD to become an SC 6's NWIP (closing date for voting: 2000-06-30).

It is scheduled that IMO's performance standard for THD will be considered at the 46th NAV session which is expected to be held from 10 to 14 July this year. The ISO/TC8/SC6 Secretariat aims at having the contents of ISO draft, when approved as an NWIP, in good conformity with the NAV'S THD performance standard which is expected to be decided at the NAV.
