g) TRANS/SC.3/2000/6 "European Agreement on Main Inland Waterways of International Importance". Communication from AIT (International Touring Alliance) to develop the Agreement, on the Network on Inland Pleasure Navigation Waterways (AGNP).
The different organisations, institutions, research and development centres, working groups in the domain of inland water transport activity within Europe are now working with the final aim to assure the efficiency, the safety, the quality and the prevention of pollution by ships. It could appear as necessary and timely, that the extension of mutual information and cooperation between all interested parties be proposed which would permit the utilization of the same works/standards already elaborated, or avoidance of the parallel work on identical or similar subjects, or acceleration of the elaboration of new standards.
Such organizations, committees, working groups, in the present case, could be WP on IWT of CEE, European Commission - Directorate VII Transport, ISO/TC8/SC7 "Inland Navigation", ISO/TC8/SC11 "Intermodal and Short Sea Shipping", ISO/TC22 "Road Vehicles", ISO/TC104 "Freight Containers', IAPH - International Association of Ports and Harbors", IRU - International Road Transport Union, ICHCA - International Cargo Handling Coordination Association, PIANC - International Navigation Association.
With the extension of mutual information and cooperation, it must not be forgotten that all the works and efforts are handed in since the inland waterway transport as well as coastal, short sea and deep sea shipping, are particularly suited to handle the expected growth of commercial traffic, with optimal economic, safety and environmental conditions.
