9.2 Work items under unfavourable work progress and the reason for it
(a) AWI 17884 Ships and marine technology - navigation -Searchlights for high speed craft [06.02]

(b) Relevance to late work items
As stated in subclause 9.2(a), the SC6 Secretariat was requested to submit the appropriate and justified reason to the ISO/TMB, regarding the following work items in addition to AWI 17884 Searchlights for high speed craft (06.21), because the progress of the items is late in view of the target dates registered at ISO/CS, if the work of these items is desired to be continued:
- ISO/FDIS 11674 Ships and marine technology - Heading control systems [06.12]
- ISO/CD 16273 Ships and marine technology - Night vision equipment for High Speed Craft [06.19]
Therefore, with regard to ISO/FDIS 11674, the SC6 Secretariat replied that even though there was some delay in the work, it wished to have the item kept as SC6's work item continuously, because the work had already reached ISO/CS's stage of preparing its publication as a joint standard between ISO and IEC. Afterwards, it was published under cover of ISO 11674: 2000.
With regard to ISO/CD 16273, the SC6 Secretariat submitted its reply to the ISO/TMB that it wished to keep the item under continuous consideration for the following reasons:
(1) The at-sea performance test is difficult. It took much time to determine the alternative shore test method.
(2) It was necessary to prepare the harmonized standard for both IMO and ISO, after IMO/NAV'S final discussion on the draft performance standard for night vision equipment, and as a result the preparation work of CD 16278 was delayed.
Up until now, no reply has reached from the ISO/TMB, but the SC6 Secretariat is quite confident that the work of consideration of CD 16273 is allowed to continue.
9.3 NWIP: Transmitting Heading Devices (THD)
With regard to THD, the text of the performance standard was discussed at the 46th IMO/NAV session held in July this year, and the text was made into IMO/NAV 46/7/2 Annex 6: Draft recommendation on performance standards for marine transmitting heading devices (THDs)".
