The AP's developed will enable the exchange of marine industry information between successive agents in this process.
Continued participation by the European Marine STEP Association (EMSA), Japanese Marine Standards Association (JMSA), Korean Ship-STEP (KS-STEP), and the US Navy/Industry Digital Data Exchange Standards Committee (NIDDESC) show this effort is important to national in initiatives.

There are other working groups in SC4 that are addressing some of the functional areas that are relevant to ship Product model data exchange. In WG3 there are three APs that should support ship Product model data exchange. The Ships Electrical and Wireways requirements overlap with similar scope defined in JWG9, AP212, Electrotechnical Design and Installation. Ship Piping and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) requirements are similar to T20, AP227 Plant Spatial Configuration.
