Summing Up

All of you have already mastered a general course in esophageal speech. You also have had your own firm experience in moving toward proficiency. This alone is not enough, however, for you cannot achieve authentic speech instruction without more extensive knowledge.

The target of speech training is for new students to achieve rehabilitation within six months to one year.

Avoid wasting time by proceeding from the beginners' class to intermediate and advanced. You should thereby make them succeed in acquiring their "second voice."

In this manual, I have described possibly important details by item for the purpose mentioned above. I have tried to write as plainly and concisely as possible. Please bear with the writing, even if it seems to lack something, however, because the message is more important than the word.

In conclusion, I would like to refer to an excerpt from one of Mr. Mitsuo Aida's poems in his collection, "I am a human being":

"Don't strain

Don't be idle.

Use for force,

but don't strain

This is really

difficult to do."

This is exactly the secret of success in esophageal speech training.

Please convey the profound significance of this poem to the students you will instruct.

-- Words for the lips, love for the heart --
