I. THE REGION OF VOCALIZATION
It is generally observed among laryngectomees that although they are able to make daily conversation with enough volume and elocution, their articulation is rather too heavy and not fluent.
Many of those people do speak, however, they feel it annoying, and gradually refrain from speaking. Listeners, too, feel sorry and avoid intensive talking or miss coming to the point, thus making the conversation irrelevant and vague. This is a phenomena often seen among those people whose region of vocalization is located low.
It is rather difficult to explain since the region of vocalization is invisible from outside. Generally, people are classified into two groups, people whose articulation sounds heavy, and people whose articulation sounds light. My idea is that the heavy articulation comes from lower region of vocalization and light articulation comes from the upper part of the throat.
