V. EXERCISES IN VOWELS

Now that you can make the basic sound with ease, try forming this sound into "ah,". Expel the charged air with the articulatory organs in the position for "ah", and you will make the clear "ah" sound. "Ah", and again "ah". Do it several times. When you are able to do this, try "oh", "aw", "oo", "ee", "I", "oy", "ow", and "ay".

Practice

1) First, just before you phonate, open your mouth wide into the position of "ah", and then say "ah". Try to synchronize the voice-producing movement with the articulatory movement (the movement of the articulatory organs into the position for "ah").

Beginners are often seen to move their mouth in haste after voice escapes unarticulated.

And the air stored in the esophagus sometimes all bursts out when least wanted.
