In April, 1964, Mary Dochler, a famous American instructor in esophageal speech came to Japan and showed us with demonstration some important keys to success in esophageal speech.
Unless you can produce a sound, nothing can be done, so you practice the following four steps. She explains the actions with the use of her hand.
1. "Open your mouth." She opens her hand and stretches out her fingers.
2. Close your lips (with air in your mouth)." She turns in her fingers and closes her hand.
