The principles themselves are fairly easy to understand.
6. Mental and Physical Conditions of Students
Even after understanding the explanation above, new students are usually terrified that they will fail to produce esophageal speech.
If they are asked whether they have ever burped or belched, they are certain to nod that they indeed have. To ease their anxiety, remind them with words such as "If so, don't worry. Esophageal speech is nothing other than belching." Encourage them by urging them to try producing sound the way you do, and then repeat this over and over. Have them imitate your actions.
Show them repeatedly how to produce sound.
It is of the utmost importance to make new students feel like practicing, from the beginning.
Note that only principles and methods of esophageal speech should be explained to patients who have just been discharged from the hospital and have not recovered sufficient physical strength to actual start practicing.
