V. Summary of Work to Train Instructors of Esophageal Vocalization

 

A. Training by Invitation

The Federation invites laryngectomee trainees from around Asia to Tokyo and trains them as esophageal vocalization instructors. This represents the principle work of the Federation.

1. Location:

a. Tokyo Metropolitan Welfare Hall for the Disabled

b. JICA Tokyo International Training Center

2. Period of Training:

a. AFLA Course-1 month (held in May)

b. JICA Commissioned Course-3 months (from June to August)

3. Contents of the Training:

Specialists offer participants the thorough training in and knowledge of esophageal vocalization techniques necessary for instructors. One to two classes, each lasting 1.5-2 hours, are conducted a day.

4. Expenses:

a. Ginreikai covers all expenses, including airfare, room and board, and the training fee, for participants of the AFLA course.

b. JICA does the same for individuals who participaate in the course it commissions.

5. Requirements for Trainees:

a. Trainees should be under 60 years of age and in good health.

b. In the selection of trainees, no preference will be given based on sex.

c. Trainees should be highly motivated to serve others and should have the necessary qualifications and conditions to do so.

d. Each trainee should be ablet to speak English in addition to the standard language of his country/region.
