1. Outline
Outline of the Symposium on Indo-Pacific Climate
On March 6-7, 2000, FRSGC (NASDA/JAMSTEC) hold “Symposium on Indo-Pacific Climate”at Shiba Park Hotel, Tokyo. The symposium was focused on the region ranging from Indian Ocean to the western Pacific Ocean, and was the first one held at this scale under the theme. The details are shown below.
1. Objective
This symposium focused on ocean and climate variability especially in the region of the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific, which have recently drawn the attention of researchers; the monsoon mechanism that is deeply related to these phenomena; and the Southern Ocean.
Researchers from FRSGC and other institutes exchanged views on the current understanding of these topics. Prospects for future observations and modeling of climate variability were explored through presentation and discussion. They also tried to plan future collaboration in researching these topics.
On top of that, the primary goal of this symposium was to convey research results to the public.
