第3回東京世界女子空手道選手権大会が盛大に開催されますことを心よりお喜び申し上げますとともに、世界各国及び地域から参加される選手役員の皆様に心から歓迎を申し上げます。
空手道は日本古来からの「武道」として受け継がれ、今では、国内はもとより海外にまで普及、1994年には広島市で開催された第12回アジア競技大会、1998年にはタイ・バンコク市で開催された第13回アジア競技大会においてそれぞれ11種目が実施され、また、2002年に韓国・プサン市で開催される第14回アジア競技大会においても実施予定であるなど「スポーツ」として定着してきており、その発展にはめざましいものがあります。
空手道は心身の鍛練はもとより人格の形成に大きく役立つということはすでに周知のとおりであり、我々スポーツ関係者にとっても大変喜ばしく、空手道の一層の興隆発展に繋がることを大いに期待するものであります。
今大会に参加される選手の皆さんには、日頃鍛えられた技を充分に発揮され、正々堂々と全力で競技されるとともに、世界各国との友好・親善により一層寄与されることを期待しております。
終わりに、本大会の開催に向けてご尽力された財団法人全日本空手道連盟をはじめ関係者の皆様方に心から敬意を表しますとともに、大会のご成功を祈念し挨拶の言葉とさせて頂きます。
I would like to welcome all the officials and competitors from all over the world to Japan for the 3rd Ladies' International Karatedo Cup.
Karatedo has been inherited as a traditional Japanese sport and has taken root as a sport. Karate has spread not only in Japan, but also all over the world. Karate was included with 11 categories for the 12th Asian Games in Hiroshima 1994, the 13th Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand in 1998, and it will be included in the 14th Asian Games in Pusan, Korea in 2002.
It is well known that Karatedo has been a great help for character moulding as well as for the discipline of mind and body. I am sure that it gives everybody concerned in Karatedo as much pleasure, and it will lead karatedo to further prosperity.
I hope everybody who competes in this championship will be able to make full use of their technique, strengthen their mutual friendship.
Finally, may I express my heartfelt respect to everyone concerned who worked very hard for the preparation of this championship and I hope that this championship will be a great success.
