JACS letter to Chairman, ISO/TC8(8 N 927)

The Chairman had authorized distribution of the letter to members of TC 8, which had been done by document 8 N 927. Since the document had been received just prior to the TC8 plenary meeting some delegates indicated that they had not yet received the letter. The Chairman tabled the matter at 17th meeting ISO/TC 8 to be placed on the agenda of the 28th meeting of the AG in Romania since there had been insufficient time for the document to be read by all the members. After discussion of the letter at the 28th AG meeting, it was voted unanimously that no reply to the letter was warranted and no further action for reply would be taken.

 

Establishment of a new Subcommittee 11 on intermodal and short-sea shipping

TC 8 Advisory Group approves unanimously to establish a new subcommittee in TC 8, SC11. The purpose is to: (1) cope with a new industry demand for the international standardization activities on intermodal transport and for short sea shipping, which has been solicited strongly by the countries concerned with the interface aspect of water transport with other modes of transport and with ports and harbors, as well as the large international maritime interest on the particular aspects of short sea shipping. and (2) to recognize the limiting conditions in recent activities on inland navigation. Both the needs for intermodal and short sea shipping received overwhelming agreement from the members to participate.

Romania agrees to assume the Chairmanship and Secretariat for the new subcommittee. Romania will prepare the scope, purpose and justification, programme of work, liaison bodies, etc., in accordance with Form 3 ISO) and the necessary ISO directives. The Form 3 will be submitted to the member nations for voting.

The Advisory Group unanimously supports the following recommendation:

 

Recommendation 124 on establishing new Subcommittee on Intermodal transport

The ISO/TC 8 Advisory Group recommends that Romania commence the work necessary to establish new ISO/TC 8 SC-11 on Intermodal transport

 

Comments from Each Member on Items of their Choice

Mr. Van Dijk (Denmark) explains that at the time of TC/08/SC2/WG2 (vibration of ships) meeting held in Denmark, which is liaison body of TC 8, there was a proposal of reporting by TC108/SC2/WG2 at the next TC 8 plenary meeting (Tokyo). Mr. Van Dijk will collect related information from now on.

Mr. Vieira (Portugal) requests that a Portuguese version be attached to the Annex to standards of terms, vocabulary, etc. at the stage of DIS. It is understood that this is normal procedure providing that the nation concerned provides the information in their language.

 

ISO/TC 8N 2000

The Chairman introduces Revision 1 to this document, which he has prepared while serving as acting Secretariat.

A problem existed with correct names, addresses, telephone and FAX numbers, e-mail addresses for members of the AG, Chairmen and Secretariats of Subcommittees, P members and liaisons. Also no electronic version existed on these addresses. Some e-mail addresses did exist. Document 8 N 2000 will represent the current address information and e-mail listings for ISO/TC 8. It will be the official list and will be updated as necessary. All members are to submit corrections or additions to the Secretariat of ISO/TC 8 (Mr. Ogo). The Chairman and Secretariat will approve all changes to the document in order to maintain configuration control on the document. Annex 1 AG, Annex 2- Chairmen of SCs, Annex 3 - Secretariats of SCs, and Annex 4 - E-mail addresses have been completed and were reviewed at this AG meeting.
