Report 18th meeting ISO/TC8, Tokyo (Japan), 1999-10-20/21
1. OPENING OF THE MEETING (9.30hrs)
The Chairman opened the meeting with the traditional blowing of the boatswain's pipe.
The Chairman introduced Mr. Daisuke Kiuchi, Director of Technology Division, Ministry of Transport. Mr.Kiuchi delivered his welcome speech for the delegates.
Next the Chairman addressed a special welcome to Mr.Robin M Bradley of IACS and Mr.Miguel Palomares of IMO.
Next the Chairman introduced Mr.Hatsumi Koyama, Senior Managing Director substituting for Mr.Isou Minami, the President of JMSA. Mr.Koyama read Mr.Minami's greeting message.
After that Mr.Ichiro Ogo, Secretary of TC8, explained the timetable of the plenary meeting.
2. ROLL CALL OF PARTICIPANTS

The Chairman asked for self-introduction by each of the delegates and also asked them to submit their business cards to the Secretary for distribution to all the members.
31 participants attended the meeting from 9 member countries (Denmark, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russian Federation, United Kingdom,and USA). The attendance list is annexed to this report.
Apologies have been received from Mr.Schade (Germany), Mr.Crudu (Romania), and Mr.Brookes (UK).
Mr.Van Dijk informed the attendees that Mr. Schade(Germany) is in hospital, but is quickly recovering. It is not possible for him to participate, in the 18th plenary meeting; however, he will participate in the next TC8/AG and the Plenary.
3. ADOPTION OF AGENDA

Mr. Molstrand suggested that a proposal of the changing of the SC5 Chairman be added to Item 6, the Report of SC5. The revised and annotated draft agenda was adopted.
4. APPOINTMENT OF EDITING COMMITTEE
The Chairman appointed Mr.Hopkins, USA, Mr.Molstrand, Denmark, and Mr.Ogo, TC8 Secretariat to the Editing Committee in case any Resolutions have to be drafted.

ISO/TC8 appoints the following members to the Drafting Committee: Mr. Hopkins(USA), Mr.Molstrand(Denmark), and Mr.Ogo(TC8 Secretariat)
