9.1 Progress on the work related to the work items under which draft standards are now under consideration

(1) ISO/DIS 613 (Magnetic compasses, binnacles and azimuth reading devices -

Class B) and ISO/DIS 694 (Positioning of magnetic compasses in ships) [06.02, 06.03]

As a result of voting by SC 6 members, it was found that the provisions of 2.6.3 of the ISO Directives were complied with and it was agreed that the draft would be transferred to the next deliberation stage of ISO/FDIS. Each text has already been sent to ISO/CS as a text under reference of ISO/FDIS 613 or ISO/FDIS 694.

With regard to ISO 694, the diagram (Figure 1) which shows the installation position of a magnetic compass is out of conformity with Annex II to IMO resolution A.382(X) due to the amendment this time, so the SC 6 Secretariat asked ISO/CS to submitted an ISO proposal for amending the diagram (dated 15 March 1999) to IMO/NAV via ISO/CS, so that it could be amended appropriately.

(2) ISO/DIS 9875 (Marine echo-sounding equipment)[06.08]

The above document is now under voting at its DIS stage with closing date of 22 September, 1999.

It is planned that the voting result will be reviewed at the SC 6 Tokyo meeting.

(3) ISO/DIS 11606 (Marine electromagnetic compasses)[06.11]

As a result of voting by SC 6 members, it was found that the provisions of 2.6.3. of the ISO Directives were complied with and it was agreed that the next consideration stage of the draft should be ISO/FDIS.

Additionally, the SC 6 Secretariat is at present modifying the draft by referring to the opinions submitted by various countries. The text of FDIS will be prepared and submitted to ISO/CS.
