On the scantling equation for a thickness of a plate based on the theory of large
deflection
1. Proposal
We would like to propose that the calculation method for the design thickness should be based on the theory of large deflection. In ISO draft, we would like to propose to amend current formula (19), 7.1.1 Bending stiffness criterion to the formula in the following box, in which the latter formula is our proposal. Rational explanation will be described below on the 2nd paragraph.
2. Theory of large deflection
Figure 1 shows the result of calculation for the maximum deflection of the plate, which are based on the theory of large deflection and the theory of small deflection respectively, where the uniform load is acting on a plate with all edges fixed. Figure 1 is made by the reference document □gTheory of Plates and shells, Timoshenko,S.P. and Woinowsky-Krieger,S.", and the value of w/t is drawn versus P・b4/16 ・ D・t:

Formula (1) is transformed to formula (3), which express the relation between thickness and uniform load.
