Dear Mr. Abbate,
With reference to Mr. David Evans letter of April 7th 99 we enclose some information that have come to our attention concerning Wayfinding in smoke.
We also enclose a draft for a research project initiated by Dr. Jonny Nersveen, The National Institute of Technology, Norway which will be done in cooperation with Oslo College, Faculty of Engineering and with funds from a.o. The Norwegian Science Council.
The research project will hopefully end discussions on formulas and width and abilities of photoluminescent strips once and for all.
We have been informed that The National Institute of Technology wish to have an international reference group connected to the project and have suggested a.o. your name and we hope you are able to accept this if you get a formal request from Norway. It would, in our oppinion, tie in with your responsibilities as chairman of SC 1.
For your further information Norway have decided to be involved in TC 8 as a P member and a National delegation is being formed with suggestions for experts to be appointed to SC 1.
We trust this information will be of value to you and that my proposal to the London meeting concerning annex E can be used in an interim period including a detailed table of luminance values from 75 - 30 mm width after respectively 10 and 60 minutes as supported by Mr. David Evans and others.
