5.5. Availability of Fire Protection Appliances and Structural Fire Protection plans: In passenger ships, for the assistance of shoreside personnel, the plans should also be stored inside the ship close to main embarkation entrances (shell doors) and in a marked weathertight container. If the containers are of movable type, the plans could be stored only on one side of the ship.
The location of the plans should be marked on Fire plans.
5.6 Graphical Symbols
For what explained on previous item A.b, on our opinion following symbols are to be deleted.
・1.50 push-button/switch for fire alarm
・1.51 Manually operated call point
・1.53 Space protected by smoke detectors
・1.54 Space protected by heat detectors
・1.55 Space protected by flame detectors
・1.56 Gas detector or space protected by gas detectors and following symbols are to be added:
・fire damper remote control
・emergency electrical appliances power shut-off (e.g. in a galley)
・control station
・quick closing valves (1.24 and 1.25 ?)
Furthermore, if the position of the fire hydrant (1.28) coincides with that one of the fire hose and nozzle (1.42), in our opinion only the symbol 1.42 should be shown on the drawing. If not (e.g. in machinery space), the two symbols are to be marked in a different way (e.g. by a different colour).
Symbol 1.35-Fixed fire extinguishing installation: it could be useful to distinguish the various water systems, e.g. WD=dranching system, WS=sprinkler system, WF=water fog system,...
For what concerns life-saving appliances symbols, in addition to symbol 2.21 Embarkation ladder, the symbol relevant Descent Units (when they are in substitution of embarkation Ladders) should be also considered (see our proposal on next page).
