for the 28th Meeting of the Advisory Group of ISO/TC 8
to be held in Galati(Romania) on 4 and 5 May 1999
1. Short outline of problem to be given to AG
1.1 WI 15516: Ships and marine technology - Launching appliances for davit-launched lifeboats
SC 4/WG 1 prepared ISO/WD WI 15516 in September, 1998. Originally SC 4 would like to improve it from WD to CD by correspondence, Mr.K.Heinz(Secretariat, SC 1) sent via email in January, 1999 a detailed comments and asked to convene a meeting of WG 1, which is a very good idea, otherwise we can not make meaningful progress on this project, because language issue in particular are very difficult to address by correspondence. SC 4 would like to convene a meeting of SG 1 for the project this year although the resources are limited, but WG 1 is still short of experts. China nominated convener Mr.Xu Yue and SC 1 nominated expert Mr.K.Heinz, Denmark withdraw nomination of Danish expert Mr.Kaj Pedersen in SC 4/WG 1 via letter dated 1998-11-24 sent by Mr.H-J.Molstrand and has not nominated another expert instead yet. Italy, Germany, Romania, Sweden, Ukraine and United Kingdom have not nominated their experts yet.
1.2 Guidance for safe ocean towing
Up to now SC 4 has still not got nomination for the working group convener.
1.3 SC 4/WG 3(Outfitting)
SC 4 is still short of convener and would like to get nomination of convener for the working group.
1.4 The second plenary meeting of SC 4
The second plenary meeting will be held this year although the Chinese government is still under reformation and the resources of SC 4 are limited, but SC 4 needs a country to host the meeting.
2. Kind of solutions proposed by SC 4
2.1 During the 28th ISO/TC 8/AG meeting Denmark, Italy, Germany, Romania, Sweden, Ukraine and United Kingdom would be invited to nominate their experts in May this year and SC 4/WG 1 would be allowed to convene a meeting this year.
2.2 ISO/TC 8/Advisory Group invites some P-member bodies to take the responsibilities of conveners for WG 3 and for guidance for safe ocean towing.
2.3 ISO/TC 8/Advisory Group invites USA or Denmark to host the second plenary meeting of SC 4.
